South Dakota News Watch is adding a full-time reporter who will focus on rural and Native American communities across the state as a Report for America corps member.

Molly Wetsch was born and raised in South Dakota. Her family comes from farming towns and the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation, so she understands the issues that are unique to both communities.

Wetsch previously served as an editorial intern for Forbes in New York City, working on the contributor network and specializing in consumer technology. At Forbes, she also wrote breaking news and contributed to the Forbes "50 Over 50 list."

Molly Wetsch

Wetsch began her career in journalism at Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls, where she wrote a monthly column and covered local business news as an intern and contributing writer for SiouxFalls.Business.

She is a recent graduate of Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, where she received a degree in global business. There, she served as deputy editor of the University Times, the university’s newspaper, and deputy editor of the Trinity Business Review.

Wetsch starts on July 7 and will live in downtown Sioux Falls but travel the state as part of this new beat made possible through Report for America. She is among 107 incoming corps members who were selected from a competitive pool of more than 1,300 applicants.

Please consider donating toward rural and Native American stories.

Besides adding Wetsch to News Watch's reporting team, the organization is hiring a full-time statehouse investigative reporter who will cover state government from Pierre. Please share the link with anyone you think would be interested.
